Such a Proud Mommy, I Am!

My handsome guy has been made fun of at school for his glasses. Poor guy. I had no idea.

For 2 weeks, before the holiday, he didn't want to go to school. He wouldn't tell me why. Well over the school break I found out why. I had banged his glasses, by accident.

He said "Well great! That is why I do not want to go to school! Because people make fun of me and call me "Silly Glasses Boy!"

My heart sank.

I called the preschool last week. School was to reopen today. They were so great. They told me how they would do a lesson on it. They would read "Arthur Get's New Glasses" and have a discussion on how everyone is different.

I told Tommy that would be happening at school. It wasn't good enough. He told me how he was going to stand up in front of all his friends and tell them how it hurts his feelings. I was happy, but figured he would NEVER do that, once he got to school.

Off we went today. I chatted with the teacher and told her what he wanted to do. She said ok, no pressure. She would ask him at circle time if he wanted to say something to the class.

I picked him up today and guess what? He did it! My 5 year old son, stood up in front of 20 kids and staff and said "I do not like it when you call me names and make fun of me and my glasses. It hurts my feelings. Please stop."

The teacher said she has never seen anything like it. She was so proud of him! I was too.

That made me feel like I am doing something right raising him!

Wow! That is great that he told them how it made him feel. So many adults can't stand up for themselves like that. I'm impressed!

That's so awesome! Go Tommy! That makes me so sad that he would be made fun of for that. I'm so glad he stuck up for himself. I hope he gets some peace now.
